{RE}discovering Him :: Day 7 - The Ordinary

Fridays are my time to challenge myself and yet take a break at the same time.

Kind of a weird combo, right? Well, that's just the way of 5 Minute Friday.

And in the midst of my 31 Days, I didn't want to give up that joyous fun I have in joining with those crazy word mavericks over at Lisa-Jo's place, cause, well, it's one of my favorite writing experiences of the week!

Plus her topic this week just so happens to be something that I am actually discovering -- all over again.

Topic :: Ordinary

{Photo taken of the Haitian sunset on my visit in June}

I noticed the sunset yesterday. That's just ordinary, right?

But I don't know.

To me it is a little extra-ordinary.
The way God painted it just for me.

Okay maybe not JUST for me....but in that moment, I needed to remember.
To remember that in spite of the heartaches, the trials, the tears, the frustrations of the past few years, He is the God of the ordinary.

The everyday sunset & sunrise.
The way of seasons that SURELY will change {I am loving the smell of fall in the air}
The ebb & flow of the winds & waves
The certain majesty of the mountains.
The cycle of the moon, which shone so brilliantly seemingly lighting my path on my dark drive last night.

{RE}discovery ::

And I needed that.
To remember.
That as much as God is the God

WHO IS CERTAIN

to do miracles in my life
to bring forth everything He has promised
to open doors that seem sealed shut

He is also the God of MY every day.
The boring
The mundane.
The ordinary.

I am not forgotten in this season of "ordinary"
because what is ordinary about a woman loved by the King of Kings.

I think that makes me EXTRA-ordinary......

And just maybe YOU too....

Do you know how much He loves you?

Okay, so little longer than 5 minutes today...but I wanted to connect my two writing challenges together so that took a minute or two {or three} extra! ;-)

Have you every participated in Five Minute Friday?
Curious to know more and want to find out the scoop?

Hop over to The Gypsy Mama, and read more about it as well as some other great writers with their own {EXTRA}ordinary stories!

Love it, love it, love it!  May we take time every day to appreciate the "ordinary things" that God so graciously has blessed us with.  Went to "your roof" this morning and was taken back again at just "how beautiful" it is all around us here in Delmas.

there is nothing ordinary about His love.
I am pretty sure the sunset was for you.

Thanks so much, Mom! I do love the "rooftop" view. The Lord is reminding me to look at every day like I did during those "rooftop days"....:)

I always feel like the sunrises and sunsets were painted just for me too...  And even though they're a gift for all of us I think His drawing me to see them makes that absolutely true.

Yes, Val! I agree...God gives to us all but for those who choose to accept or take it, the beauty we can find....man!

good stuff! thanks for your comment on my blog. i spent the 1st 10 years of my life in Nigeria, moved to Amsterdam when I was 13, came to Chattanooga, TN for college and met my husband and settled in a small southern town. never thought i would be living such an "ordinary" life, but am learning that God is at work and that even my most "ordinary" days are full of His grace and goodness and beauty.

Beautiful, Lindsey!  I love thinking about the ordinary and the extraordinary and how they really are uniquely tied together.

Wow! From Nigeria to Amsterdam to Tennesee - what a life!  Do you write about any of your stories on your blog? Would love to hear more...although I guess I don't write that much about my upbringing either...maybe I should!  I look forward to getting to know you better though!
